Yu-I Kuo, born in Taipei. She received her B.A. in Chinese Literature from National Taiwan University in Taiwan, and her Ph.D. in Visual Anthropology from Ecole des hautes etudes en sciences sociales. Her research areas focus on female shamanism studies, and a calligraphy used by southern Chinese women known as “NuShu”. A documentary created by Kuo discusses some of these topics. 
Several of Kuo’s books have been published and won various literature awards; her writing styles cross among novels, proses, scripts and picture books.
